Bieler, Joanne

My harp experience began more than a dozen years ago in Prince Edward Island, building on my musical background with flute and recorders.  It has continued through my journey across Canada to my home in Nelson, British Columbia and on to my Harp Therapy studies at the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, and at the San Diego Hospice Hospital in San Diego, California.

I have had the honour of playing my therapy harp for individuals in many different settings such as Seniors Homes, Hospice Hospitals, and Cranial-Sacral treatments; for groups at weddings, memorial celebrations, and Yoga meditations; and for children walking the Advent Spiral, in the classroom, and at magical puppet plays.

Playing my harp is an adventure.  I never know what to expect, but I always know what I am looking for – the deep connection with the listener which reveals itself as a stillness that is beyond any regular sense of calm or quiet. This stillness is where healing happens. A few moments in that place produces a sense of deep peace for the listener.  Finding exactly the right combination of musical tone, key, tempo and mode for the listener to get to that point of stillness is one of the most satisfying aspects of this work.

“Your music brings me ease and is very soothing and comforting, not just to the pain in my arm, but my whole body.  Your music speaks to my soul.”       MM, Nelson, BC
